Today's run was to be around 3 hours 10 or seventeen miles. Double fail!
First 10 miles were great, along the Bath/Bristol cycle path slightly uphill. I thought that when I turned around (about 7 mile mark) it would be easier as it would be a little downhill but there was a strong wind to cope with that must have been pushing me on for the first bit! I also took my headphones off a little before this too - they were irritating my left ear.
That would explain why I was well ahead of my usual timings. It all went slowly worse after that. Each 10 minute running section got slower and slower and I was wishing for the walking breaks to happen faster every time. Then I couldn't manage the whole 10. Then I was running scouts pace, then I was walking everytime I encountered the slightest incline or lost concentration.
Why? Probably I went off too quick - I had my ipod on for once and that following wind. I think a bigger breakfast would have been good, too fast and not enough energy I think. I did manage just over 16 miles in just less than 3:05. OW!
